Killer Pentatonic Guitar Licks

Pentatonic Guitar in rock and roll is much like the creamy filling in an oreo cookie. They just go together.

Almost all guitar players use the pentatonic scale whether they no it or not.

The pentatonic guitar scale has been looked down upon at times as being too limited, and not allowing enough emotion to be delivered to the song properly.

This couldn't be further from the truth!

Just because the pentatonic guitar scale only has five notes, and the other common scales have seven notes, doesn't mean that you can't get maximum emotion and feel for the song out of it.

Like the Major scale has seven modes that follow, the pentatonic scale has five positions that follow it. It's within these various positions that you are able to unlock and extract the maximum amount of feel for the songs.

If you're playing the pentatonic minor scale in the first position only, you'll burn out quick! And most people do.

That's why most people call it too limiting.

When the pentatonic scale is used properly, it can allow you to deliver plenty of emotion and aggression and stil be pleasing to the ear.

Because the pentatonic guitar scale has only five notes and then the octave, it has uniques patterns and shapes.

EXAMPLE: Pentatonic minor scale in the key of (G)

G - A# - C - D - F - G

HOT TIP: Rock Stars add an extra note! (C#)

G - A# - C - C# - D - F - G

This now becomes the scale known as the "Blues Scale" and don't let the name fool you. This scale has been played in countless rock and roll classic songs, and will always remain a staple in rock guitar.

If you want to get a jump start on improving your pentatonic licks and overall guitar skills, I recommend checking out pentatonic guitar licks.

There you'll find quality pentatonic guitar licks played in all the different positions, with different types feel.

This is the quickest way to add new fire to your guitar playing!

Former WASP Axeman Offering One-On-One Guitar Lessons - June 24 ...

So here's the deal Recently I have been contacted several times by people interested in receiving guitar lessons from me. I am considering accepting a few select students for private one-on-one lessons. This would be an outcall situation (meaning I would come to your home, work, etc.). You must live in the Los Angeles area and be serious about learning guitar. Contact me here or email: darrellicks2000@yahoo.com."

As previously reported, Roberts” who joined W.A.S.P. in 2001 before the "Unholy Terror" American tour to replace Chris Holmes” is in the process of putting together a four-piece group that he will be fronting. "I am looking for a drummer and second guitarist (that can sing)!" Darrell wrote in an April 19, 2006 posting at his MySpace profile. "I want to work with people that live in the Los Angeles area or are open to the idea of relocating here.

DRAGONFORCE Guitarist: 'Our Musical Influences Actually Come From ...

Brian O'Neill of UWeekly.com recently conducted an interview with DRAGONFORCE guitarist Herman Li. A few excerpts from the chat follow:

U Weekly: Herman, enquiring minds want to know... Dude, how do you shred so hard?

Herman: "(Laughter) I don't know! That's one of those hard to answer questions. We just play what we think sounds cool and if people think that's cool then we have something in common."

U Weekly: It does surprise many that you never took any formal lessons in your life...

Herman: "No, I pretty much learned from watching videos and listening to music, things like that. I never had any guitar lessons or anything like that. I just played and tried different things and work it out and see what works and what doesn't. I can't read music either.

'90s rock veterans still flock to amphitheaters

While their mid-90s peers such as Candlebox and Better Than Ezra are playing smaller venues such as the Newport Music Hall and Lodge Bar, Counting Crows and the Goo Goo Dolls have united for a tour that will probably fill most of Germain Amphitheater on Friday. Counting Crows has sustained a decade-plus career with a string of hits that started with 1994s Mr. Jones and continued through 2004s Accidentally in Love. The Goo Goo Dolls have built upon the successful poprock formula they started on 1995s A Boy Named Goo and perfected with 1998s Dizzy Up the Girl. Opening duties go to upstart rockers theworkingtitle, whose debut, about-face, will be released Tuesday. Tickets cost $25 to $67.50 at the amphitheater box office and Ticketmaster. Switchback 8:30 tonight in the Hey Hey Bar and Grill, 361 Whittier St.
