Powers discovers power of the pen
An aspiring writer, Elizabeth Powers, 14, graduated this year from Kickemuit Middle School and has a lot to show for it, including her own literary magazine. Miss Powers was one of 23 students chosen to be in the SOS (Success Oriented Students) program an eighth-grade project modeled after the Mt. Hope High School senior project. Miss Powers decided to make a literary magazine called 'Whatever,' a 76-page booklet that she edited and put together with fiction, poetry and editorials, many of which she wrote. Miss Powers will attend Mt. Hope High School in the fall and hopes to continue her literary magazine online. How did you get the idea? "I went to the library to research and found a book called 'Careers for Writers' and saw the magazine. I was originally going to write a short story, but I didn't think that was original.
